A nonprofit educational organization, the Putnam Indian Field School has inspired confidence and curiosity in young children since its founding in 1978. In addition to offering 13 different classes and numerous enrollment options, the school maintains several resource rooms that focus on nature and science, art, and sensory play.

The school’s sensory play room fosters creativity and exploration through the use of various media and textures. For example, children have access to a painting easel and sensory tables filled with water, flour, sand, and cornstarch. Materials in the room, which vary in size, shape, color, texture, and consistency, encourage free play while improving fine motor skills.
