An experienced middle market investor, Demetrios Dounis began working at Heartwood Partners as a Managing Director in 2020. Selecting which growth investments receive capital funding, Demetrios Dounis supports his portfolio company’s commitment to sustainability.

Heartwood Partners’ sustainability focus extends beyond investments in preexisting and new recycling companies. Once it begins investing in an industry, Heartwood evaluates how well the Company it supports addresses sustainability issues going forward. Universal Woods, for example, makes aluminum-based UV coated products used in high end graphics and flooring, and began recycling the scrap metal created as a byproduct of its own manufacturing process alongside consumer-level waste like soda cans.

Heartwood Partners uses its experience in environmental issues to provide multiple forms of assistance to its selected investments. Its funds help firms scale up operations, allowing them to perform more efficiently, and to invest in growth capex (equipment and expanding capacity) and enact methods unafforded by their current scale.
